In the mid-1970s, IDI Fellow Dr. Frank Ochberg defined the “Stockholm syndrome” to identify and account for the bonds that sometimes form between the perpetrators and victims of hostage captivity. In this essay published in 2014, but with broad ongoing relevance, Dr. Ochberg expanded on that notion for an audience of abuse survivors.
