Lord Alderdice Reflects on Dialogue Parallels Between the Northern Ireland Peace Process and Israel/Palestine

“… It has been clear to me for some years that there was no prospect of an end to violence between Israel and the Palestinians without Israel talking to both Fatah and Hamas, and in my conversations it has also been clear that Talks on a realistic basis are possible – not easy, but possible. However to get to Talks, both sides need the encouragement of outside friends and stakeholders. Instead, the United States, the European Union and our own British Government have been discouraging talks with Hamas, and the US has boxed itself in so that it is now hog-tied by its own legal impediments. …”
